Trying a new barbershop is a leap of faith. You are trusting a stranger with something everyone sees every day. The good news: a little preparation turns that gamble into a sure thing.
Bring a Reference Photo
The single best thing you can bring to a first visit is a photo. Words like "short on the sides" mean different things to different people, but a picture is unambiguous. Two or three angles is ideal.
Learn Three Pieces of Barber Vocabulary
You do not need to speak fluent barber, but these three go a long way:
- Guard numbers: a #2 is shorter than a #4. If you liked your last cut, ask what guard was used
- Taper vs. fade: a taper gradually shortens at the edges; a fade blends down to the skin
- Texture: removing weight from the top so hair moves naturally instead of sitting flat
Tell Us About Your Routine
A great cut is one you can actually maintain. Be honest about your mornings: if you will never use a blow dryer or product, say so. We will cut accordingly.
Speak Up Early
If something feels off during the cut, say it in the chair, not in the car. Adjustments are easy mid-cut and much harder two weeks later.
